Lover of the Least, Vol 18

“The Subtle Influence of Your Environment”

We all live in paradigms that we take for granted every day. Our expectations, fears, dreams, loves, desires, and egos are deeply intertwined with where we come from and live, who we live with and near, our friends, our jobs, our families, and the culture of our country.

A positive culture and environment can be good. A high value for freedom and democracy, a selfless loving example from family, community service, the promotion of education, a value for human life, especially the marginalized and poor.

But our environment can also be selfish, self-contained, self-centered, and narrow. John writes 2000 years ago about a gift that was given by God.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

Our responsibility is to receive Him and believe in His Name. There are no works or good deeds involved in earning this gift. There is nothing you can do to earn this free gift except Believe and receive!!

For by Grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

As I mentioned, my friends from Burma honored me with a gift last night. A list of War Widows to pray for this year! Women whose husbands were killed in the brutal war in Burma.

I have met many of these women, and thank God for this opportunity to pray for them and serve them in 2025. Truly, it is a gift! All are living in deep poverty with little or no hope for the future. They receive $28/month from the Burmese government for their pain and suffering. So is prayer enough?

These are real women, young and older, some with young children, all living in poverty and victims of a senseless war!! Why them and not you or me? Of course, prayer is NOT all they need. But it’s where we will start. And then we need wisdom on What to Do and When to Do it.

There is much to pray about and more to do in 2025:

  • War Widows ministry in Burma

  • Lighthouse Refugee Camp in Burma

  • Large Refugee Camp of 300 families in Burma

  • Missions Podcast - on site in Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, etc.

  • English Training in Burma with Gift of Education (GOE)

  • Farmland in Burma for sustainable living

  • Farm equipment for Burmese farmers

  • Sewing training center for low-income mothers (startup in Sept)

  • Rahkine Bible Translation

  • Apartment investment
